Explore Rye

A Popular Destination on the Mornington Peninsula

Rye is a seaside village that suits all types of visitors. There is something special when arriving in Rye from Melbourne – its tranquil atmosphere creates the holiday feeling immediately after entering the village. Rye is not only the perfect starting point for your Mornington Peninsula retreat and adventure, it has also nice spots to be discovered. The most popular one is probably the beach, perfect for families with children. It has a clear shallow water and lots of sand. You can enjoy a nice walk along the Rye Pier and watch the fish as they are usually very visible. You can have a great time spending a relaxing afternoon eating fish and chips on the beach. Family friendly area, clean and across the road from a strip of shops and eating places. There is a large children’s playground just before the beach.

Rye is the perfect starting point for your Mornington Peninsula Adventure. There are more than 10 attractions close by less than a 10-minute drive away

What to Do in Rye

Romantic Walks at the Beach, Bike Riding, Snorkelling, Scuba Diving, Eating and Shopping

There is a lot to do in Rye, despite its relatively small size. It is nice to sit along the eateries or Cafes overlooking the beach. In the evening, enjoy your dinner in one of the different kinds of restaurants offering traditional or Asian fusion cuisine. At the beach, you can sign up for a snorkelling or scuba diving lesson or hire a charter boat. For bike lovers, there are many options to go on the bike around Rye, however, if you do not mind some real exercise, the 28 km long bay trail from Portsea to Dromana passing through Rye is a popular pick. There is a Woolworths in the village centre so you can restock comfortably. For those preferring locally sourced goods, you can find local markets and different kind of farms close by including a popular Sunny Ridge strawberry farm (you can pick berries yourself in the season or buy a variety of locally produced goods here). It is an easy 18-minute drive from Rye to get there, so you can add other 1-2 destinations to your day trip, for example, the Main Ridge Dairy – a farmhouse cheese factory and goat diary selling handcrafted farmhouse goat cheeses located (almost) next door.
